How To Pack Your Hat For Travel:

Nothing ruins a vacation look faster than a crushed hat. Besides fashion problems, a crushed hat means you will be exposed to harmful sunburns and heat. But how do you travel for 12+ hours without encountering this problem?

In this blog we will go through the different ways you can pack your hat: inside your suitcase, wearing it, and an overview of our packable hats.

    Inside Your Suitcase:

If you need to pack your hat inside your luggage, follow these steps:

    • Stuff the crown with soft items such as socks, underwear and scarves to maintain the shape.

    • Place it crown-down in the suitcase and pack around it.

    • Avoid placing heavy items around the hat, especially avoid placing things on top.

    • The hat will be safer in a carry-on where you can make sure no other bags are crushing it.

    Take a Packable Hat:

At Ultrafino, we understand that your hat should travel as well as you do. That’s why we offer packable hats—crafted using a special weaving technique called cuenca torcido (twisted straw). These hats are slightly less tight in weave compared to traditional Panama hats, but they’re more flexible and durable—ideal for folding and rolling.

    Why it works:

    • The rounded crown and center crease help the hat bounce back to shape after rolling.

    • Gambler-style hats are best suited for packing—unlike fedoras, which have a pinched crown that’s easily misshaped.

    How to roll your hat:

    1. Hold the hat by the crown and gently push out to deflate the shape.

    2. Fold along the center crease so one side curves into the other, forming a bowl shape.

    3. Gently roll from one end, using your finger inside the crown to guide the roll.

    4. Never roll it too tightly—this can permanently damage the structure.

If you need a hat that rolls, always choose a rounded crown with the cuenca torcido weave for best results.

Use A Hat Box or Carrier:

    • The safest way to transport hats is with a hat box, however we understand that this is not always possible.

    • If you do choose to use one of our hatboxes, you can fit clothing or entertainment items around the hats to save space.

    Wear it!

    • By far the easiest way to travel with our hats is simply by wearing it!

    • Not only will this maintain the shape, it’ll also keep you fashionable!

    After Travel Care:

If you do pack your hat, here are steps you can take to help maintain or restore its shape:

    • Promptly remove hat from packaging

    • Wrinkles can be fixed by steaming or lightly dampening the affected areas and sharpening them with your fingers and then allowing them to dry.
